Age is A State of Mind and Body
Questions About Aging
What are Age Spots and What Causes Them?
Age spots are caused by an accumulation of a substance called lipofuscin. Lipofuscin is a mixture of fats, proteins and metals especially iron that are toxic. This waste piles up inside cells and over time produces the dark discoloration known as age spots.
Why do We Gray and is there a Natural Approach to Prevention?
Hair typically turns gray as a result of aging. Genetics can play a role in premature graying in younger adults. Pigment in the hair shaft comes from special cells at the base of the hair. These cells make a pigment called melanin at specific ages. With graying, the cells are making less pigment. For example, white hair has no pigment. Natural approaches include adding amino acids, B vitamins, sulfur, and a well-balanced diet including plenty of good water.
What causes Wrinkling in the Skin as a Process of Aging?
Damaged DNA from UV rays form the sun, cosmic rays, x rays which cause free radical damage to the skin cells contribute to wrinkling, along with lack of fibroblasts which are connective tissue cells that help support the skin structure. Again, good nutrition along with an increased intake of pure water, as well as Essential Fatty Acids, such as Omegacin can help protect the skin from damage.
Why does the Skin Dry Out?
The skin relies heavily on nutrients to fuel the cells responsible for healthy looking skin. Essential fatty acids like fish oils are critical to help prevent dry skin by lubricating the cells. Again, most Americans are dehydrated and need to increase their water intake to ½ their body weight in fluid ounces i.e. 120 lbs requires 60fl oz of water daily.
Why does our Memory Begin to Slip with Age?
There are several theories behind a declining memory. Documented causes include Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes. Also, stress of any type releases excess cortisol into the area of the brain called the hippocampus. When the nerve cells become toxic from too much cortisol, memory is affected. Other causes of memory loss include depression, or trauma whether physical, psychological or emotional can have an impact.
Healthy advice to combat memory loss consist of eating well, reducing stress, exercising regularly, and taking high quality supplements that include Ginkgo biloba, vitamin E, antioxidants, and vitamin B12 for starters. In closing, aging is something we all share as part of life, but one thing I will promise you, wrinkles will not interfere with your enjoyment of golfing, fishing, swimming, exercising, being in nature, or spending quality time with your family or friends.
