Are You Skipping Breakfast?

Here is the most recent "skinny" on skipping breakfast according to diabetic education experts at DiabetesInControl.Com.

A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (Feb 2005) was performed to determine whether eating breakfast affects energy intake, energy expenditure, glucose, circulating insulin and lipid fatty concentrations in otherwise healthy individuals.
The bottom line is that omitting breakfast impairs insulin sensitivity and leads to weight gain. So, do yourself a favor and start your day off with a healthy breakfast. You may have to rearrange your schedule but what’s more important than your health?

The Solution to America's Weight Problem!

Everyone must have heard the statement, “breakfast is the most important meal of the day,” but do you know why this saying is true? Only those who understand the science behind the statement implement it in their daily lives. If you can’t manage to fit breakfast into your routine you may want to reconsider after reading this.

A common misconception is that by skipping breakfast, fewer calories are consumed each day resulting in weight maintenance or weight loss. Although this seems like a cogent argument, you have to understand human biochemistry to realize the inaccuracy of this thought process. Based on studies it is believed skipping the first meal of the day increases the chances of becoming obese, developing diabetes or experiencing a heart attack.

The rate at which your body burns calories is known as metabolism. When a meal is skipped, your body goes into “starvation mode” during which time the body’s natural response is to conserve calories and store any food consumed as fat. If this form of dieting persists, hormonal changes and metabolic disorders could take place within the body that make it more difficult to maintain a steady weight. In many cases the body begins to breakdown muscle for fuel. The broken down protein releases nitrogen, which is rapidly washed out of our body by water released from tissue cells. This release of water immediately results in weight reduction. The noticeable drop can be quickly regained just by drinking water; however, the muscle loss is not as easily replaceable.

Our muscle is metabolically active tissue that requires calories on a daily basis to maintain itself. Muscles burn calories regardless of whether the body is active or inactive. People with higher muscle mass need more calories and burn calories more rapidly. When muscle mass decreases so does your calorie requirement. People who deprive themselves of food end up regaining all of the weight, if not more, as soon as they go back to their old habits. This is because their metabolism has slowed down, they’ve decreased their daily caloric requirements, and decreased their muscle mass.

Eating breakfast is one of the most effective ways to rev up your metabolism, have more energy, or lose weight. Everyone should strive for an increased metabolism, which can be achieved through exercise and eating regularly. All the latest diets encourage 3 small meals a day with snacks in between to prevent cravings and binge eating.

According to researcher Linda Van Horn, PhD, MHP, RN of Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, “findings suggest that if you’re trying to control or lose weight and lower risk factors of heart disease, not eating breakfast is not a good option.” People who eat breakfast end up eating less cholesterol and saturated fat and have a better overall nutritional status than those who skip the morning meal.

Top three reasons why we should eat breakfast (Better Homes and Gardens):

1. Better performance. Breakfast eaters have a more positive attitude toward school and work, and they perform better. A Boston study showed that children who started eating breakfast raised their test scores significantly and were late or absent from school less frequently.
2. Better overall nutrition. People who eat breakfast are more likely to get the nutrients their bodies need. A Louisiana study found that people who skipped breakfast rarely met even two-thirds of the daily requirements for most minerals and vitamins.
3. Better weight control. Breakfast revs up the body's metabolic rate first thing in the morning; burning calories faster than if the morning meal had been skipped. Thus breakfast eaters maintain their weight more easily than skippers.

A study with 2,900 Americans between ages 18-30 that lasted 10 years showed that a daily breakfast may reduce the risk of becoming obese or developing signs that lead to diabetes (insulin resistance syndrome) by 35% to 50% compared to people who skip the morning meal. People who skip breakfast end up eating more calories throughout the day. The additional calories are consumed through junk foods rather than nutrient rich breakfast foods. Eating breakfast allows a greater chance of burning off the calories since it is consumed earlier in the day. Studies also show men who ate at least one serving of whole-grain and other types of breakfast cereal were as much as 20% less likely to die from heart disease, diabetes or other causes.

Chances of developing insulin resistance syndrome, a metabolic disorder in which the body doesn’t use blood sugar efficiently can develop among people with high amounts of abdominal fat, high blood pressure, and elevated sugar levels. When the body is deprived of food, it may lead to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), when food is introduced, the insulin levels spike up. Insulin causes you to convert and store excess sugar as fat. The human body cannot live without insulin but by maintaining balanced insulin level without periods of too much insulin is much healthier.

If it is difficult to fit meals into your schedule, try Växa’s Nutritonizer, a meal replacement drink that offers a quick and tasty way to get 100% of 28 vitamins and minerals, plus biologically available protein/amino acid complexes, a balanced array of carbohydrates and other essential cofactors believed to be necessary for good health. It is fat free with no cholesterol, no aspartame, and no picolinates.

Study after study has indicated, breakfast really is the most important meal of the day and now we know why. Breakfast is also a great time to take your multivitamin. Take Växa’s Daily Essentials, which includes vitamins, minerals, trace elements, amino acids, and select herbs known to be powerful antioxidants.

Finally - Help for Diabetes

Over 18 million people in the United States have diabetes. An estimated 13 million have been diagnosed while another 5 million are unaware that they have the disease. Secretary of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Tommy G. Thompson announced findings from the Diabetes Prevention Program’s clinical trial that show at least 10 million Americans at high risk for type II diabetes could significantly lower their risk through diet and exercise. In a separate study Dr. Mark Pereira at Harvard Medical School analyzed the eating habits of 2,831 participants and found "breakfast may play an important role in reducing the risk of type II diabetes and cardiovascular disease."

Diabetes mellitus is the most common of any serious metabolic disease in humans, and perhaps more than any other disease, is closely associated with diet. Moreover, diabetic population is significantly higher where western lifestyle and diet habits dominate rather than those cultures consuming a more "primitive" diet. Four percent of America now suffers with diabetes; 90% of these are type II and the remaining 10% are type I. The prevalence of diabetes is rising. It's now the 6th major cause of death in the U.S. and it's thought that this will double every 10-15 years, with an estimated 6-10% increase per year.

"In view of the rapidly rising rates of obesity and diabetes in America, this good news couldn’t come at a better time. So many of our health problems can be avoided through diet, exercise and making sure we take care of ourselves. By promoting healthy lifestyles, we can improve the quality of life for all Americans, and reduce health care costs dramatically," states Thompson.
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic condition in which the pancreas no longer produces enough insulin or when cells stop responding to the insulin produced by the body. Without insulin glucose cannot be absorbed into our cells.

Type I diabetes can occur at any age, but usually develops in children and young adults under the age of 30. Treatment for this type of diabetes includes insulin shots or using insulin pumps choosing the proper foods, exercising regularly in addition to controlling blood pressure and cholesterol.

In type II diabetes is when the body produces plenty of insulin but the cells become insensitive to it. The insulin resistance is a condition in which fat, muscle and liver cells do not use insulin properly. Initially the pancreas continues to release insulin as demanded. In time the pancreas is less responsive to the insulin demands and begins to secrete less. Risk factors such as obesity and inactivity increase chances of developing type II diabetes.

Additional risk factors include:
Age
High cholesterol
Family history
Ethnic background
Obesity
High blood Pressure
Poor diet

Diabetes can be associated with a number of serious complications and premature death if proper steps to control it are not taken. If the blood glucose level stays too high, it can lead to heart, kidney, eye, foot and other problems. Complications may also occur when the blood glucose levels get too low.

Controlling your blood glucose level through diet, exercise and medication can help treat diabetes. The best way to control glucose levels is by reducing the amount of simple sugars and refined carbohydrates while increasing complex carbohydrates and fiber. Complex carbohydrates such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains are broken down slowly resulting in slower release of glucose into the blood stream. Simple sugars are broken down rapidly and drastically increase the blood sugar level. Carbohydrates should make up 55% to 60% of total daily calories. 10% to 20% of daily calories should come from protein and only 30% of total daily calories should come from good fats. Daily intake of 20 to 35 grams of fiber is also recommended.

Exercise has an important function in the prevention of diabetes. It has long been known obese people are more likely to develop diabetes. A four-year long Kaopio Ischemic Heart Disease Study put 1038 people with impaired glucose tolerance on a moderate exercise program. At the end of the study, results showed a significant decrease in progression toward diabetes in those individuals.

In a study reported in Diabetes Care and later in Science News, a particular desert cactus the prickly pear was shown to lower blood glucose and insulin levels in diabetics, the authors believed that the prickly pear treatment may improve the ability of insulin to efficiently stimulate the movement of glucose from the blood and into body cells. The prickly pear can be found in Växa’s Diabin+, a homeopathic medicinal specially formulated to provide extra nutritional support for maintaining appropriate blood sugar levels within the circulatory system.
Newly published research indicates that there is now compelling reasons to supply the body with milk-based proteins, especially those that are predominantly Casein in nature like those contained within the Systemex. Casein is said to protect against spontaneous diabetes and against acute Cyclosphosphamide or Cy-induced diabetes while also lessening the severity of insulitis.

Diabin+ is a safe and effective formulation, which is further strengthened with the addition of Växa's TriCardia (containing 32-Free Form Amino Acids) and Systemex, a Lactose-free Meal Replacement Drink containing Casein and Colostrum.

Because of the autoimmune nature of diabetes, supplementation with Immune-Aid is also recommended. Immune-Aid+ is formulated to ensure T-cell integrity and subsequent appropriate dispersal of those cellular populations throughout the bloodstream.

Diagnosing Springtime Allergies

Well here it comes... it's that time of year again! For those of you who suffer from allergies and sinus infections, you know what I am talking about - The merry-go-round of symptoms that control your head-sinus pressure, fever, dizziness, light-headedness, headaches, and nausea. I wish there was a magic bullet that could remove all of the potential allergens in the environment and in your body, which trigger the release of histamines causing your sinuses to work overtime. We know there are three main types of hypersensitivities related to spring-allergy problems, sensitivities to food, airborne contaminants and environmental chemicals.

Acute and chronic sinusitis, allergies, and upper respiratory health problems are one of the most common reasons people visit their doctor. Another often-overlooked factor is the Standard American Diet (SAD). Our modern diets include far more refined sugars and carbohydrates than ever before.

We touched upon diet in earlier health tips. Diet is a critical component when it comes to sinus-allergy problems. Remember, excess simple and refined sugars put the immune system to sleep. While your immune system (your first line of defense) is asleep all these viruses, bacteria, mold and especially fungus multiply rapidly. Doctors may prescribe antibiotics to stop bacterial infections, but these antibiotics can sometimes cause more harm than good when overprescribed. Protect yourself from the effects of antibiotics and learn about the importance of probiotics.

"Spring is in the Air"

For those who are affected by allergies, the expression, “spring is in the air” has special meaning. Get ready to sniffle, drip, and itch your way through the pollen-filled blooming months. Allergies are abnormal or hypersensitive responses of the immune system to relatively harmless substances such as pollen, dust, food, animal fur, and environmental pollutants. In this article we will talk about the different forms of allergies and medications available and find answers to some frequently asked questions such as; are there any side effects associated with common allergy medications and is there a cure for allergies?

More than 50 million people in the United States suffer from asthma and allergies which have no immediate cures. Fortunately, there is no shortage of medications for these conditions. Asthma is usually treated with antihistamines to prevent the release of histamine chemicals that are released during allergic reactions. This form of treatment is effective, however, it comes with its share of side-effects which include: dry mouth, difficulty with urination, constipation, drowsiness, and may even cause nightmares in some children.

Hayfever runs in families and is related to asthma and eczema. Hayfever is present at different times of the year and is dependent on the pollen to which you are allergic. Other external factors include the weather and the air quality. Inhaling allergens such as grass pollen, weed pollen, tree pollen, dust mites, animal fur and consuming allergy causing foods may cause hayfever. It is difficult to avoid these allergens, however, you can reduce the symptoms by keeping your home ventilated with fresh air. Vitamin C, garlic and gingko biloba are also known to help. Treatments for hayfever are similar to that of asthma and can be available over-the-counter or by doctor’s prescription.

Individuals with asthma may also experience sinusitis. Each year, health care providers report 32 million cases of sinusitis to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Sinusitis is defined as the inflammation or infection of one or more sinus cavities directly related to the nasal cavity. Air trapped within blocked sinuses found in the facial bones that surround the nose, including areas within cheekbones and in the bones of the forehead above the eyes, may cause pressure on the sinus wall. Other symptoms include fever, weakness, tiredness, cough (usually more severe at night) and runny nose or congestion.

Most cases of sinusitis start with a common cold caused by a virus. In some cases, fungal infections can cause sinusitis. Although fungi are abundant in the environment, they are usually harmless to healthy people indicating the human body has a natural resistance to them. Chronic sinusitis occurs in individuals who suffer from asthma and some asthmatics find dramatic improvement by taking antibiotics. Doctors may also treat this condition with steroids such as steroid nasal sprays.

Corticosteroids (steroids) reduce inflammation associated with allergies and treat nasal stuffiness, sneezing, and an itchy, runny nose due to allergies. These forms of allergy medicines are also used to decrease inflammation and swelling from other allergic reactions, such as food allergies or skin allergies. Corticosteroids are effective but they must be taken daily for one to two weeks before the full effect of the medicine can be felt. Inhaled corticosteroids may cause cough and unpleasant yeast infections in the mouth.

The side effects of oral corticosteroids include:

Weight gain
High blood pressure
Fluid retention
Growth suppression
Diabetes
Cataracts of the eyes
Osteoporosis
Muscle weakness

Decongestants are often prescribed with antihistamines during allergic reactions. Decongestants may raise blood pressure forcing extra work for the heart. Decongestant allergy medicines are not recommended for people with high blood pressure and glaucoma. They may also cause insomnia, irritability and may restrict urinary flow, similar effects to that of antihistamines.

Combination medicines, which include both decongestants and antihistamines, allergy medicines and asthma medicine, antihistamine eye drops and mast cells stabilizers (treat mild to moderate inflammation in the bronchial tubes), are used to relieve multiple symptoms. The side effects for combination medicines are dependent on which combination of ingredients are taken. Refer to the information in the insert or the back of the package for information on possible side effects.

If you are looking for a simple solution for allergy symptoms without all the side effects related to the various allergy medicines, try Växa’s Aller-Sine. Alternative medicines work on levels most pharmaceutical drugs do not. Histamines are the main culprits of an allergic reaction and most over-the-counter allergy medicines are “anti-histamines,” which only mask or cover up the histamines once released, Växa’s homeopathic medicinal Aller-Sine seeks to stop histamines from being released in the first place! Aller-Sine acts with the body to inhibit the rupturing of mast cells and basophils, from which histamines are released. Thus, unlike ordinary "anti-histamines," it doesn't "wait" for the histamine to be released before it goes to work. In this way, most, if not all of the allergic reaction is circumvented and thus prevented. In conclusion: Why deal with side-effect from pharmaceutical drugs that only mask the symptoms? Choose a product that treats the problem. Don’t wait for the sneezing and sniffling to start! Try Aller-sine Today.

Are You Aware That Nutritional Deficiencies Play An Important Role In ADD/ADHD?

Research shows that without sufficient building blocks of the brain's nerve cell network, learning is cumbersome and delayed, concentration and attention to tasks cannot be sustained, and memory cannot be maintained. For children suffering from Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), life can be frustrating. They may find it impossible to sit quietly, focus on a task, or to work well with others; they often have difficulty mastering even basic skills.

When we look at the primary causes of ADD/ADHD, nutritional deficiencies are invariably near or at the top of the list. The other factors include genetics (a percentage of the parents have some form of ADD/ADHD that was undetected or undiagnosed when they were children), food allergies (common culprits like sugar, dairy, and wheat for example), and heavy metals (mercury and lead) have been implicated. According to studies I have seen, when examining the most common nutrients that are absent or lacking from recommended amounts in children, the following minerals consistently surface: zinc, magnesium and chromium. Each has specific functions in the body and the brain, and plays a role in helping to balance the right and left sides of the brain so that proper communication occurs improving overall focus and concentration, with less distractibility.

Attend Questions and Answers

There is a strong relation between zinc deficiencies and ADHD. Zinc is important for the metabolism of essential fatty acids. Children with ADHD are known to be both deficient in zinc and essential fatty acids. In addition, zinc works to create melatonin, important for regulating dopamine - a known factor associated with ADHD. According to a study completed by BMC Psychiatry there has been documented improvement of ADHD children with the supplementation of 55 mg of zinc. The standard Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for babies 7 months to 3 years is 3 mg, for children 4-8 years is 5 mg, for children and preteens 9-13 years is 8 mg and teenagers 14-18 years 11 mg boys/9 mg girls.

Certain medications may have interactions with zinc supplementation so you should consult with your physician first. Some of these medications include: ACE Inhibitors, Antibiotics, Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), Immunosuppressant Medications (corticosteroids, cyclosporine, etc), Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) and Penicillamine. Symptoms of zinc deficiencies consist of: growth retardation, hair loss, diarrhea, delayed sexual maturation and impotence, eye and skin lesions, weight loss, delayed healing of wounds, taste abnormalities, mental lethargy and loss of appetite.

Växa’s Attend is a very comprehensive ADD/ADHD natural medication that includes 3 mg of zinc in every capsule. With the loading dose for children over 50 lbs the child will receive 12 mg of zinc and with the loading dose for teenagers and adults they will receive 18 mg of zinc. In addition, the product contains 70 mg of EFAs, 200 mg of medium chain triglycerides, 100 mg of flaxseed powder and over 300 mg of lipids. And these are just a few of the ingredients in this powerful alternative to stimulant pharmaceuticals.

The zinc used in Attend is OptiZinc. An antioxidant made by the InterHealth Co. in California, the same company that makes ChromeMate & ActiVin. It has shown synergistic effects with other antioxidants, exceeding the abilities of common vitamin antioxidants such as vitamin A, E, and C.

Complementary products to Attend: Extress that aids in a reduction of hyperactivity, and Memorin that aids in the enhancement of memory function, both contain OptiZinc as well. Extress contains 1 mg of zinc per capsule and Memorin+ contains 2 mg of zinc per capsule. Other Växa products that contain zinc are Daily Essentials (for teens and adults), Vaxa Buddies (for children) and Nutritionizer (for children, teens and adults alike).

Practical Information On Attend

Attend FAQ

We are always entertaining the most effective manner in which to educate on-line regarding ADD/ADHD. I thought it would be beneficial to discuss the most recent questions that I receive on the subject when I am out in the community or doing a seminar or lecture. The following is a compilation of the most commonly asked questions.

Attend Hand Book

This week we thought we would stay close to home and cover some practical information on Attend. Those who take the Attend or have children who take the Attend typically ask the same set of questions. “Does Attend work for Adults?” “How can I get my child to swallow a capsule?” “Will it cause hyperactivity?” “Are there any side effects?” “Can it be taken along with other ADD/ADHD medications?” “What is in the Attend Strategy Pack?” “How long before I will see results?” and “What is a loading dose?”

Attend Questions and Answers
Does Attend work for Adults?”
Yes. Simply adjust the dosages accordingly.
Adults: Take 2-4 capsules daily or as directed by a physician. Begin with a loading dosage of 3 capsules twice daily for 30-45 days or as directed by a physician.

“How can I get my child to swallow a capsule?”

There are a few ways to accomplish this challenging feat. You can actually train your child to swallow a capsule by having them put the capsule (one at a time) in their mouths with a mouth full of water, then having them put their head between their knees and swallowing. Gravity actually helps by pulling the capsule to the back of the throat making it easy to swallow. You may need to make a game with this, in order to get your child to participate. If you cannot get your child to try, then the capsules can be opened and put in a little bit of peanut butter, applesauce, or honey. Another idea is sprinkle the Attend over the top of a protein shake and then have them drink it off of the top with a straw.

“Will it cause hyperactivity?”

No. The Attend is meant to combat hyperactivity by getting to the root of the problem. Children and Adults alike become hyperactive because there are not enough neurotransmitters in the brain and information as well as surrounding stimuli can not be processed quick enough. So in order to cope they bounce from one idea or activity to another. Attend strengthens current neurotransmitter connections and stimulates the growth of new ones, helping information and stimuli to flow freely. One important note about the Attend product is not to take it too close to bedtime. It should be taken 4-5 hours prior to going to sleep. It is not that it causes them to be hyperactive, but that it makes them intensely focused.

“Are there any side effects?”

No. There are no known side effects associated with Attend. A typical response from parents who have had their children on prescription medication in the past but switched to Attend is, “I have my child back!” Known side effects associated with pharmaceutical ADD/ADHD medications are weight loss, facial tics, suicidal thoughts, increased teenage drug use and even cardiovascular events. It is very important if you plan to switch from a pharmaceutical medication to Attend to first speak to your physician. He or she needs to help you gradually wean you or your child off of the prescription medicine. There could be adverse withdrawal effects.

“Can it be taken along with other ADD/ADHD medications?”

Yes. You can start the Attend while taking other ADD/ADHD pharmaceutical medications. If you are using it along side another supplement product, be cautious of over doing it with some nutrients. It is possible to take too much of a good thing. Typically Attend does the trick all by its self and no other supplements are needed.

“What is in the Attend Strategy Pack?”

The Attend Strategy Pack contains one bottle each of Attend, Memorin and Extress. Some adults or children need a little more than the Attend. If you have seen a positive change while taking the Attend by itself but still need a little more attention to detail, a little more help with the memory. Memorin helps to do the trick. It has some of the same ingredients of Attend, but it is not quite as comprehensive, so you are not getting too much of one ingredient. When dealing with hyperactivity the Extress really helps. Extress helps to diminish emotional sensitivity and mood swings, calm and focus attention and more! You can start off with Attend, go through the loading period and then see if you need to add any complementary products or you can start off with the Attend Strategy Pack and then after the loading period taper down one of the complementary products, if your progress starts to slow down then you know the complementary products were needed. If there is a desperate situation (i.e. work difficulties, behavioral problems or relationship issues) then it is recommended to start off with the Attend Strategy Pack.

“How long before I will see results?”

How quickly you see results will depend on a multitude of factors: how nutritionally sound the person is; how severe the ADD/ADHD is; and how diligent they are with taking the product. Some have noticed a difference within two weeks, some have taken a full two months and some never noticed a difference until they stopped taking the product. The Attend is a very successful product. It is a “life changer.” We are very confident in the product, so confident we offer a 1-YEAR MONEY BACK GUARANTEE. Do yourself or you loved one a favor and stay with the product through the full loading dose.

“What is a loading dose?”

All nutritional products take a little longer to work than most pharmaceuticals. Attend is no different. Most people with ADD/ADHD have some nutritional deficiencies so the Attend first works to replenish the “nutritional shelves.” Also, Attend has a very serious job ahead of it. Keep in mind; it is stimulating the growth of new neurons in the brain. This may take some time, but it is well worth the wait! The loading dose is for when someone is starting off on the Attend product and also during times of added stress. These times could be during an increased workload at a job, college or school; when students are returning from a long break; when there have been changes in curriculum, with teachers or the addition of a recreational sport; during exam time; etc. After the ADD/ADHD individual has adjusted to the change or increased workload they should return to the maintenance dosage of Attend.

ECZEMA

Since we recently discussed Asthma in our Health Tip, I thought it would be appropriate timing to include the close link and relationship of Eczema or Atopic dermatitis. Eczema is characterized by chronic itching and inflammatory skin that is thickened and very dry. The skin in individuals with Eczema tends to be overgrown by bacteria, especially Staphylococcus aureus. It is commonly found on the face, wrists, and inside of the elbows and knees. Although it may occur at any age, it is most common in infants, and particularly infants and children with asthma.

Other risk factors for developing some form of eczema include, positive family history (66% of individuals with eczema have an immediate family member with the condition), positive allergy test (skin and food), weakened immune system, low stomach acid, stress, and nutritional deficiencies. So, if you are suffering from any of the above symptoms, consider your everyday environment and any possible allergens or toxins, evaluate soaps, cosmetics, perfumes, anti-perspirants-deodrants and any changes in laundry detergents as possible causes to onsets of this very uncomfortable skin condition. And remember, natural products can be very helpful.

Natural Remedies For Eczema

Eczema, also known as Dermatitis, can be quite bothersome during the spring. This inflammation of the skin can be triggered by pollen allergies. Other causes can be food allergies, stress, candidiasis (yeast overgrowth), leaky gut syndrome, cold or hot weather, etc. It can be inherited by family, especially from those with a history of hay fever or asthma. There are several different types of eczema causing symptoms such as scaling, flaking, thickening, weeping, crusting and itching of the skin. Atopic dermatitis is associated with individuals that have allergies. It is normally found on the face and in the bends of elbows and knees. This is also the type of eczema that typically occurs in children. “About one out of every 10 kids develops eczema.” KidsHealth

It is important to avoid scratching the inflamed area, skin infections such as herpes and staph frequently occur. Applying a good cream or ointment daily is necessary to maintain moisture, a simple petroleum jelly will do. Be sure to apply it 5 minutes after bathing, this will help with absorption. Keeping skin clean, moist and free of allergens, as well as harsh chemicals will help to alleviate symptoms.

In addition to taking care of skin on the outside, taking care of skin on the inside is equally important. Drinking plenty of water is a start. Other things that you can do are to detoxify the bad stuff (toxins) and take in the good stuff (vital nutrients). One recent study suggests the intake of “friendly” bacteria like Lactobacillus during pregnancy can prevent the development of atopic eczema in high-risk children. Antioxidants like Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Zinc are important for combating toxins. In general, kelp and B Vitamins are also important nutrients for healing tissue and healthy skin. Take an EFA supplement (Essential Fatty Acids). Lipids and fatty acids are necessary for cardiovascular (eg. cardiolipin), neurological and dermatological health (eg. linoleic and linolenic acids). One other important supplement to consider is Betaine HCL (Hydrochloride), because people with dermatitis often have low levels of hydrochloride.
You can find all of these vital nutrients in the following Växa Products:

Växa’s ReFlora contains a special complex of 10 different and beneficial bacteria, plus phytomedicinals and other nutrients, to help the body restore healthy bacterial flora.

Växa’s Anti-Oxin with Grape Seed Extract is one of the most rare and most potent proactive antioxidant vitamin formulas available, containing Grape Seed Extract (Activin), Pycnogenol, plus 28 other ingredients.

Växa’s Liver Formula will also aid in ridding the body of toxins considering the Liver acts as a filter.

Växa’s Digestin contains Betaine HCL as well as powerful digestive enzymes Amylase, Protease, Lipase, Lactase, Cellulase, Sucrase, Maltase, and much more.

Växa’s Omegacin offers 29 bioavailable Omega 3-6-9 Fatty Acids and essential lipids, plus phytosterols and antioxidants.

Växa’s Daily Essentials contains vitamins, minerals, trace elements, amino acids and select herbs known to be powerful antioxidants, including B Vitamins and Kelp.

You can see that all of the suggested Växa products are very important nutrients necessary for health and longevity. They will not only help with eczema, but will help with a wide range of health conditions. You cannot go wrong. Simply restore health and symptoms will disappear. Don’t suffer this spring; take a preventative approach.
